DESCRIPTION

The story plays out in Berlin in 1961, just after the raising of the wall that would divide Germany's capital for nearly three decades. As a result, many families, friends, and lovers were almost entirely separated. Konrad and Sophie, the protagonists of “The Promise,” shared this fate, and met just several times in the span of 28 years. Konrad got stuck in East Berlin, where he became a renowned scientist, while Sophie made her way into the West. The man goes to great lengths to be closer to his sweetheart. “The Promise” is a moving story of love in a divided city, whose eastern part is controlled by suspicious Stasi agents.
