DESCRIPTION

Miron Białoszewski wrote “A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising” in the late 1960s, adopting the perspective of a “private man,” who wishes to remain independent of the mayhem  present in the grand theatre of the world. The poet's colloquial, spoken language corresponded excellently with recording the everyday life in a war-ridden city. While recounting the events of the uprising, the teleplay's narrator re-enacts conversations, images, and thoughts from memory. The director completes them with archive material and confronts them with contemporary Warsaw imagery.

The story has been adapted by Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz and Tadeusz Sobolewski, film and literary critic who was the poet's close associate for an extended period of time.
