The young Tomaszek spends the summer of 1918 with his grandparents in Lithuania. It is through his eyes that we observe the Lithuanian countryside, where Christianity mixed with pagan traditions, the world of the living met the world of the dead, and raging passions made people commit horrible and unusual deeds.
