DESCRIPTION

Borys Lankosz's debut has been highly acclaimed at Poland's most important festivals. The story takes place in the crude, Stalinist 1950s. The protagonist, Sabina (Agata Buzek), is searching for someone who'd make a good husband. She is supported by her mother (Krystyna Janda) and her grandmother (Anna Polony), which shows an inter-generational solidarity of women. When Sabina comes across an attractive candidate, she enthusiastically agrees to marry. She doesn't suspect, however, that the man of her dreams conceals a dark secret. Borys Lankosz has proven that one can tell the tragic history of Poland in the spirit of Andrzej Munk's “Bad Luck” - contemplatively, but also in a light manner and with subtle comedic overtones. The black-and-white, noir-stylised film stars Adam Woronowicz as one of Sabina's admirers.
