An observant viewer will notice that Krzysztof Kieślowski's series takes place in Warsaw. However, the characteristic city space doesn't matter here - “The Ten Commandments” is a universal story not limited to our own cultural sphere. The series is also valued in Iran and the Far East, for instance. The protagonists are average people, and their professions reflect a broad cross-section of society. Among them we find a lecturer, a taxi driver, and a physician. The protagonists' ages and personalities are equally diverse. Nevertheless, they are all connected by having to face difficult moral choices that have a mysterious, metaphysical air to them. The series' episodes refer to the titular ten commandments, while the cycle has one common element: the episodic role of many interpretations (an angel?, a mysterious observer?), played by Artur Barciś, who featured in no fewer than nine episodes.
