DESCRIPTION
The Amazonian shaman Karamakate is the last survivor of his tribe. Only he knows the secret of the Yakruna – a plant that can remedy all man's ailments. The shaman accompanies two white scientists who seek the healing plant. Their search slowly changes into a mysterious, phantasmagorical journey into the heart of darkness. The director uses black and white to portray a world of intuition, where coincidence, madness, and magic play equally important roles. “Embrace of the Serpent” is based on journals written by German Theodor Koch-Grunberg and American Richard Evans Schultes, who travelled the Colombian Amazonia.
