Skolimowski's return to the big screen following a 17-year hiatus. “Four Nights with Anna,” made in Poland, is one of our best films of the past 25 years. In a way that is intimate and rough it tells the story of Leon, a small-town incineration plant worker. He leads a solitary outsider's life, regularly peeking on his neighbour, a nurse (Kinga Preis). Extremely bashful and self-conscious, Leon develops an ambiguous, partly erotic fascination towards her. During the titular four nights the protagonists will become closer, although not necessarily in a fully conscious and controlled way. Adam Sikora is the author of the sophisticated cinematography, which creatively processes the ugliness of the represented world into the film.
“Four Nights with Anna” evoked a wave of admiration, reminding people about the somewhat forgotten master who lives abroad and about his unique view and take on the world.
