DESCRIPTION

“Hands up!”, filmed in 1967, did not enter distribution at the time due to the involvement of censorship. When in 1981 the film was finally supposed to enter cinemas, Skolimowski shot an additional prologue that comprised of the narrator's recollections and thoughts. The film eventually made it to the screen in 1985, without the added footage.

Graduates of the Medical Academy meet for the tenth anniversary of their graduation. They read out letters and telegrams of those who couldn't make it to the homecoming. Provoked by the telegram from one of the absent colleagues, the friends decide to pay him a visit. Due to the lack of a different means of transport, they travel by freight train. Alcohol brings about confessions and reminiscing about their academic years. “Hands up!” is an intense and bold psychodrama that fits into the tradition of Adam Mickiewicz's “Dziady.”
