The simpleton Ubu, incited by his ambitious wife, wants to become the king of Foland. Thanks to populist slogans and intrigues he manages to achieve his goal. The new king quickly becomes a dictator ruling with an iron fist, and his greed and ignorance lead the country towards its fall. As a result of the war with Russia, Foland loses its sovereignty, and King Ubu, together with his queen Ubica, are looking for a new place to rule.
Enriched by the experiences of the 20th century, the adaptation of the 19th century play by Alfred Jarry is a surreal fantasy about Poland, and an analysis of the mechanisms of ruling. A grotesque form, a universal message, daring performances by actors Jan Peszek and Katarzyna Figura, and the final words of the rulers - “We are you” - as a disturbing memento.
