DESCRIPTION
Skolimowski's earliest film shown during this year's retrospective. “Little Hamlet” is a Łódź Film School student film which surrealistically remodels the themes from William Shakespeare's play. In a degraded, empty space reminiscent of a construction site, three characters meet: Little Ophelia (Elżbieta Czyżewska), Little Laertes (Wiesław Gołas), and Little Hamlet (Zdzisław Leśniak). To the tune of a drunken song, the chorister belts out his absurd monologue, while the characters move in high-speed, which brings silent films to mind. This short cinematic joke shows Skolimowski's talent for saturating a space with extraordinary atmosphere and creating unexpected, humorous scenes.
