DESCRIPTION

Two painters: the first one graduated from the Fine Arts Academy and has painted several paintings, and the other one is an ingenious amateur, a real artist, author of thousands of paintings. And one difficult friendship. Krauze's film is a story about a life ruled by an obligation: for Nikifor Krynicki, a social outsider, it's the talent he received from God, and for Marian Włosiński – taking care of the lonely genius.

The film, which took years of preparation, is one of the most extraordinary and distinct Polish films, awarded at many festivals. Unconventional and full of mysticism, it is a biography of a distinguished representative of primitivism; a universal story that poses questions about the source of talent and inner freedom. Picturesque cinematography by Krzysztof Ptak, Krystyna Feldman in the role of her life, and amazed audiences almost all around the world.

Special screening of the digitally restored film.

DIRECTOR
Krzysztof Krauze (1953-2014) Prominent Polish director and screenwriter. In the beginning of his career he worked with the Se-ma-for studio, where he used to shoot short animated films. After this period he made documentaries and teleplays. The films that brought him popularity and recognition are “The Debt” and “Saviour Square,” which portray Polish society in the transformation period. In the biographies he made, “My Nikifor” and “Papusza” (which he made with his wife Joanna, just like “Saviour Square”), he brings back the atmosphere of Poland from many decades ago in a refined and very illustrative way. He died in December 2014. Together with his wife he was preparing a fact-based story about the genocide in Rwanda, “Ptaki śpiewają w Kigali”; Joanna Kos-Krauze continues to work on the film which is to premiere in 2016.
