An adaptation of stories by Adrian Markowski portrays the unease, insecurities, and instincts that control Poles tired of living in a vegetative state on the margins of society. In the very episodic, chock-full of absurdities, but also lyrical plot we observe people who are desperate and tired, impoverished and homeless. We look at the ever damp industrial city that surely remembers the People's Republic of Poland, at the grey, ramshackle buildings and dilapidated tenement houses. It is a sad-and-funny reality, abundant with tragic emotions and exaggerated gestures. In spite of the brutality pervading this environment, ordinary human kindness manages to come through. All of this makes up a film free of social cinema clichés, a performance about contemporary Poland, rich in symbolism and the grotesque.
