In her musical performance “Podwórko – Świat” OLENA LEONENKO returns to the backyard of her childhood, in the heart of Kiev. This backyard is both metaphorical and very real. Its inhabitants are Russian, Ukrainian, Jewish, Georgian, there are mixed families, anti-Semites, some dogs and a lot of cats. It's a crossroads for musical styles and people's fates. You may hear backyard tangos and Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish folk songs, as well as songs by Okudzhava, Wysocki, Leshchenko, Bernes, and music hits from films such as “Jolly Fellows” or “Two Soldiers.” The performance is a musical catalogue of memories, full of warm-hearted humour, and understanding for people's dreams and weaknesses.
In 2009 the performance was recorded at the Polish Radio Theatre and broadcast on the Jedynka radio. In 2010 Janusz Głowacki received the Don Quixote Award for directing, and Olena Leonenko received the Arete for her acting.
