DESCRIPTION
A biographical film about the eventful life of Rosa Luxemburg. Von Trotta tells the story of Luxemburg's political activities, from her involvement in the labour movement and creating the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania, through the Second International and the Spartacus League, to establishing the Communist Party of Germany. An equally relevant part of the story is the outstanding intellectual's love life – her affair with socialist activist Leon Jogisches (portrayed by Daniel Olbrychski) in particular. Apart from a portrait of Luxemburg, von Trotta also paints an interesting picture of the social-political relations in Germany under the rule of emperor Wilhelm II.
