A play that is not very well-known in Poland, written by a Nobel prize laureate in literature. A psychological drama with erotic undertones. Stella and James are married, Harry and Bill live together and are probably a couple. A late-night phonecall from James to Bill upsets Harry. Initially he is jealous, but it quickly turns out that James only wants to know whether Bill slept with James' wife during a business trip to Leeds (they are both fashion designers). Bill denies at first, but later admits to having met with Stella.
Pinter transforms this inconspicuous story into a sophisticated charade filled with lies, manipulation, the provoking of jealousy among partners, and helplessness against one's own jealousy. The play has astonishing plot twists that constantly shed new light on the characters' relations.
