DESCRIPTION

A modern psychological drama. The Russian province. Olga, nicknamed Merylin Mongol, lives in a world of ugliness, lack of opportunities, and wounded relations. Abused by Michal, a married boy from the neighbourhood, and neglected by her mother, she attempts to emotionally bond with her housemate Aleksy. A visit from a drunken Inna, Olga's sister, triggers off situations that confront dreams with overwhelming reality. For both women, Aleksy – a visitor from the city – is the personification of a better life for which they long, and which they can't even imagine.

The helpless, completely unaided yearning for God and the protagonists' desperate search for a way out of an emotional void are reminiscent of works by Chekhov and Dostoyevsky.
