Skolimowski's student film featuring Stanisław Dygat, for whom it was the only film role ever (and one that got him the Honorary Diploma at the Łódź Film School Student Film Festival). The film is based on Dygat's story, “Pięć tysięcy złotych.” Two men meet at a fun fair to pass down a certain amount of money. The amount is wrong, however, which leads to a quiet but obstinate argument. Walking between the carousel and shooting range, the men are aware that the area is patrolled by German policemen who'd be delighted to check whether either of them might be Jewish. “Your Money or Your Life” is a pastiche of crime dramas like Carol Reed's “The Third Man,” skilfully balanced between a partially abstract plot and a specific historical background.
